What a Data Entry Operator does
Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts, recruited through SSC CHSL and various department-specific notifications, are responsible for high-volume, high-accuracy digital data entry from physical records or forms into government systems. Eligibility is 12th pass, but — like Stenographer — the post requires a demonstrable skill: a minimum typing speed, commonly 8,000 key depressions per hour, tested directly in a Skill Test after the written exam.
SSC CHSL's structure applies here too: an objective Tier I/Tier II written exam followed by the mandatory typing Skill Test, which is where a meaningful share of otherwise-qualifying candidates are eliminated.
