SSC CHSL runs a two-tier structure: Tier I is an objective computer-based test on General Intelligence, English, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness, and Tier II adds a descriptive paper plus, for DEO and LDC posts specifically, a mandatory typing or data-entry skill test — a stage many otherwise-qualified candidates lose marks on simply from lack of practice. Railway ALP recruitment adds a Computer Based Aptitude Test to the standard CBT stages, and Navy/Air Force entries carry the same PET/PST and medical requirements as other uniformed posts. 12th pass is also the base eligibility for a wide range of state secretariat clerk and typist posts, which are typically state-specific single-tier written exams with lower competition than the central-level ones.
