English Language Fill in the Blanks
The sentence below has two blanks. Choose the pair of words that fits both blanks so that the sentence is grammatically correct and makes sense. The new rules were introduced to ___ delays at the counter, but they had the ___ effect on the busiest branches.

"But" sets the second half against the first, so whatever the rules were meant to do, the outcome must be the reverse. "Reduce, opposite" gives a sensible purpose and then contradicts it, which is what "but" requires. "Reduce, intended" and "prevent, same" both describe the rules working as planned, leaving "but" with nothing to contrast. "Increase, desired" is worse still — no rule is introduced in order to increase delays.
Reasoning Syllogism
In the question below, the statements are followed by two conclusions. Take the statements to be true even if they seem to disagree with commonly known facts, and decide which conclusion logically follows. Statements: All keys are locks. Some locks are doors. Conclusions: I. Some keys are doors. II. All doors are locks.

Correct answer: A. Neither conclusion follows

Keys sit entirely inside locks, and some locks are doors. But the locks that happen to be doors need not be the ones that are keys — the overlap could lie wholly in the part of the lock circle that holds no keys. So conclusion I cannot be drawn. Conclusion II reverses the second statement into a universal, which is never permitted. "Some locks are doors" says nothing about doors that lie outside the lock circle. Neither follows. The pattern to remember: a universal followed by a particular gives no conclusion about the two end terms.
Quantitative Aptitude Simplification and Approximation
What value should come in place of the question mark? 36% of 2500 + ? = 1200

36% of 2500 = 25 × 36 = 900 So ? = 1200 − 900 = 300. The blank sits on the left of the equals sign here, which is where candidates lose the mark — the instinct is to report 900 or 1200 rather than the difference the equation actually asks for.
