The path to a TGT/PGT post runs through two separate exams, not one: candidates must first qualify CTET (for central government schools) or the relevant state TET, which is a pass/fail eligibility gate with no merit ranking of its own, and then separately clear the recruiting organisation's own written exam — KVS, NVS and DSSSB each set their own paper testing pedagogy, the subject to be taught, and general awareness. A B.Ed. without a TET/CTET pass does not qualify a candidate for TGT/PGT recruitment, which is the single most common eligibility mistake among aspiring government teachers. Primary-level (PRT) posts in some states accept alternative qualifications like D.El.Ed instead of B.Ed., so candidates should confirm which specific teaching qualification a given vacancy requires before assuming B.Ed. alone is sufficient.
