A B.Sc. science degree is the specific qualification behind a set of technical and scientific posts that a general "any degree" requirement does not cover: Scientific Assistant posts in DRDO, the India Meteorological Department, the Central Water Commission and the Central Ground Water Board are all recruited through SSC's dedicated Scientific Assistant exam, which requires a science degree in the relevant subject. FCI recruits science graduates into technical and quality-control roles, forensic science laboratories hire B.Sc. holders (often with a preference for chemistry or biology) as Lab Technicians and Assistants, and ICAR/agriculture department posts frequently specify B.Sc. Agriculture specifically.

Because many of these posts are subject-specific, the written exam usually includes a paper on the candidate's science subject rather than only general aptitude — the SSC Scientific Assistant exam, for instance, tests physics, chemistry or the relevant applied science alongside general awareness. B.Sc. is also the standard prerequisite (alongside B.Ed) for Science teacher posts in government schools, and for lab-based roles in central government hospitals and research institutes. Candidates should check subject-specific eligibility closely: a Physics-heavy Scientific Assistant vacancy and a Chemistry-heavy one are listed as the same post title but draw from different B.Sc. specialisations.
